Japan has it all; mountains, lakes, rivers, crystal blue seas and endless rice and tea fields. No matter what season you are interning in, there’s always enough outdoor sports for you to try. This time we are taking a deep cold dive into Gala Yuzawa – the best ski location for a day-trip.
The cool thing: Gala Yuzawa is only a 1,5h ride from Tokyo Station and the Shinkansen literally stops at the ski slope. When you get out of the train, you will enter a building where you can rent your skis or snowboard gear, winter wear and gloves. You then pay JPY1,000 for a locker, change and jump on the ski lift to the top.
There are beginner, intermediate and advanced lessons – in English it is pricey. For JPY6,000 you’ll get 1,5 hours of lessons but better to be safe than sorry! Usually after a lesson or so it’s all about practice. Or perhaps you can ask your internship coordinator if he/she has time to teach you more about how to get down the slope safely.
